Ingredients
For the Dough
- 4 cups bread flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Egg Wash
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine bread flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Add warm milk, eggs, softened butter, and vanilla extract.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide into equal portions. Shape into smooth rolls.
- Arrange rolls in a greased baking dish or on a baking sheet.
- Cover and let rise again for 45–60 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Whisk together egg and milk for the egg wash. Brush over the tops of the rolls.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush warm rolls with melted butter for a soft glossy finish if desired.
Tips
- Bread flour gives the rolls a softer chewy texture.
- Do not overheat the milk or it may affect the yeast.
