Apple Slab Pie

Apple Slab Pie is a classic, crowd-pleasing dessert made in a large rectangular pan instead of a traditional round pie dish. With a buttery, flaky crust and a generous layer of cinnamon-spiced apples, this dessert is perfect for feeding a group at gatherings, holidays, or potlucks.

Ingredients

For the Crust

  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

For the Apple Filling

  • 8–10 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Top

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (for sprinkling)

Preparation

Make the Dough

In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.

Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Gradually add cold water, mixing until a dough forms.

Divide dough into two portions, wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.


Prepare the Filling

In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla.

Toss until apples are evenly coated.


Assemble the Pie

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

Roll out one portion of dough and fit it into a 10×15-inch baking pan.

Spread the apple filling evenly over the crust.

Roll out the second portion of dough and place it over the top.

Seal the edges and cut small slits in the top for steam to escape.

Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.


Bake

Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

Allow to cool before slicing.
