Cheddar biscuits

These homemade Cheddar Biscuits are soft, buttery, flaky, and loaded with sharp cheddar cheese. With their golden tops and tender layers, they taste just like classic Southern bakery biscuits and pair perfectly with soups, chili, breakfast, or fried chicken dinners.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Garlic Butter Topping

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and garlic powder.
  3. Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or fork until crumbly.
  4. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. Pour in buttermilk and gently mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Scoop or shape the dough into biscuits and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 14–17 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Mix melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley. Brush over warm biscuits immediately after baking.
